Acai Berry Diet Supplement

Renowned nutritionist Dr. Perricone puts the acai berry as the most nutritious healthy super food in the world, in his book ‘The Perricone Promise’. This little purple berry called the acai  has become a TV celebrity in its’ own right. Getting top billing on an Oprah Winfrey show, and The Today Show, to name but two. It has also been featured in the printed media numerous times.  All of them are skeptical but very positive at the same time. The consensus seems to be that this little tropical fruit is close to being a miracle berry.

Now I’m not going to go as far as this and claim that the acai is a cure-all life-restoring plant, but at the same time you should not be put off by all the hype. What I do say is that the acai berry is one of the healthiest food supplements on Earth.

Now you won’t find the acai at any old grocery store because it only thrives in a limited number of special places in the Amazon basin in Brazil and it does not last long after being picked. Less than 24 hours in fact. Lucky for the Brazilians that they are the only people who can enjoy really fresh acai fruit.

Modern technology however has allowed the acai to be freeze dried and turned into a pulp and powders that retain 99% of the healthy properties of the fresh acai berry juice. A word of warning here because there are unscrupulous merchants who are pushing acai powders that are illegal and do not have the very antioxidant effect of good acai.

The acai is mostly pip, covered in a thin layer of pulp. In fact, about 9 tenths of the acai berry is pip and this is inedible. So we need a lot of acai berries to make a little juice. So as a diet supplement the acai is great but expensive and watch out for acai ’scammmers’ when surfing the Internet.
